[Travel Oregon] Silver Falls State Park

Travel Time: December 2014.

My fiancee and I were planning the short road trip to the Portland, not just a ride on I-5. We thought we were going to hot springs or Willamette Fall near Portland, however we made a last minute change. The Silver Falls looks awesome and the reviews on Yelp is great. We often made such sudden decision on the small issues in our lives. The randomness removes the hard expectation, and makes our journeys more enjoyable.  Rules and plans are just for backup.

I feel lucky about our decision. I was a wonderful place, and it is my first time to see an actual waterfall up-close.

A short path toward the picnic area before entering the trail.

The stream that later creates the water fall.
A view of the picnic area in such a nice day.
The Silver Falls consists of 10 different waterfalls. We visited 2 of them and took only the shortest trail this time. We parked our car at the south entrance, where a picnic area is located. Toward the inside of the park, there are more falls, and more in the north part than the south part.

We were totally amazed when we saw the first waterfall. It drops from high rock and falls into a deep valley. There is a zig-zag walking path that leads to the bottom of the rock inside the valley. Walking along the path, the punching sound of the waterfall peaces me.

A steady shot video of the waterfall.

Another video shows the drop of the fall.

See that punching water on the bottom

A B&W shot.
Leaving the first waterfall, we walked along the valley following the stream. The stream led us to the next fall, which is much wider than the first one but not as high.

The second waterfall, wider, lower.

This video was shot inside the waterfall.

What a wonderful place.
The trail that goes along the first two falls in the southern part of the park was about 2 miles, with a climbing up part. It is a easy trail. Here is the map the the Silver Falls State Park.
